Since 1911, Fredericia Furniture created furniture with a very specific idea and personality. With furnishings designed by including Børge Mogensen and Nanna Ditzel, Fredericia Furniture represents some of the best-known design classics from Denmark. Fredericia Furniture has dealers around the world.
Firstly, the site should act as an online catalog, to display their whole range of products. Fredericia Furniture prides itself in offering high quality and customizable designer furniture, so the catalog should reflect that by showing the customer the different choices offered as to, for example, finishes and materials, or the product specifications. The furniture designers themselves also play a big part in the company’s focus, and as such, they should all have a lot of information for the customer to learn about. Indeed, the storytelling is a crucial part of the user experience.
The product list should be very dynamic and allow the user to navigate easily through the categories and filters. Another key feature of this website is the Image Bank. It is to be used by professionals, and allows them to download product pictures in high resolution with an interface similar to the list page (categories, filters, etc.). The user can tick whichever images he wants with a checkbox. These images are remembered via a cookie, and the user can then decide to download all of these images at once. This will trigger custom code, which will create a zip file containing all the images, which will then be sent to the user.
A restricted area should exist on the website, accessible only to selected users. This area’s role is to provide these professional partners exclusive content, such as press releases and special downloads.
Since Fredericia doesn’t sell directly to customers, they should be able to find a dealer easily. For this, a, interactive map would be provided, on which all the dealers will be positioned so that their details are easily accessible. It was also important that Fredericia could easily maintain the site and quickly input content in two languages.
Dynamicweb partner, PicoPublish, and Fredericia Furniture worked on the design with Uncle Grey, a media company from Aarhus. The website is designed to be responsive on four different device sizes, and it is rich in organized content. As such, Dynamicweb is used as a way of easily managing all this content into pages, subpages and paragraphs.
The project is also strongly linked with Perfion, in which all the product information is managed, and with Navision, which is Fredericia’s ERP.
All the products in Dynamicweb are imported from Perfion (with the exception of some downloads) through the Data Integration feature of Dynamicweb. The integration is scheduled and the search uses the new index features.
The new solution makes great use of the named item lists as it seemed to be the best solution easily managing static content. For example, the news, the contacts page, the projects page… All use named item lists for their content. This allows Fredericia Furniture to manage a high number of items easily, and to take advantage of the possibilities of the Item Publisher to display them.
Fredericia Furniture is now able to service their dealers, partners and customers with a lot of relevant information and stories about each product: Who the designer is, what is available in the same collection, what are the customization options, etc. The partners can easily download a lot of materials and pictures in high resolution for use in press and media.
All combined, Fredericia Furniture is now able to maintain its extensive content on several levels, giving it more power and flexibility. The website interactivity and the sleek design allow the company to gather its customers and partners in a new and modern way, more suited to its philosophy and more in touch with the current state of the art in websites, with an emphasis on responsive design and rich, engaging content.
