The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which is the European Union’s (EU) new data privacy law and will take effect from 25 May 2018.
This regulation will affect how companies (even SMEs) collect and handle personal data about their customers. To put in a more local context, Singapore’s equivalent of the GDPR is the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
Your organization will be eligible for compliancy if you’re either based in Europe or have any dealings with European customers. You might not sell directly to Europe but if your e-commerce provides worldwide shipping then you might be selling to a European customer.
